35mm Slides

The graphics section of Media Services offer a 35mm computer generated slide service. We can generate slide presentations from your written/typed instructions. If you prefer to create slides on your own computer, or if you prefer to design your own presentations, these can be imaged direct from your disc onto film. This short guide is aimed at introducing the slide production services available and to help you to use them effectively. However, you are strongly advised to discuss your requirements with the staff in the graphics section before using the services, particularly if it is for the first time. Please telephone extension 2603 to discuss your requirements.

High quality colour slides are produced from your instructions, and our staff will advise on the layout and presentation of your information. In addition to text, our staff can draw scientific figures, charts and tables from your original data, as well as design and draw diagrams, illustrations, logos, cartoons, etc. for inclusion in your slides. Please allow at least 5-10 working days for the production of artwork varies according to workload.

Visit Lasergraphics website for up to date BLL drivers

Notes

  • Slide set up should be set on 35mm
  • Slide set up should be set on 12x8 inches (custom)
  • The document should be set up as 7.33 x 11.00 inches

Slides produced in other Mac applications not listed above can be imaged to film provided they are saved as Scrapbook, or PICT files. However, in this case our staff will not be able to make any corrections so you must ensure that your slides are correct before presenting them for imaging. Slides produced in any IBM Windows application not listed above can be imaged provided they are saved as .BLL files. This Windows driver is available on disc free of charge from the graphics staff and may be installed on your computer (see installing .BLL generator). or from the Lasergraphics website at www.lasergraphics.com Experience has shown that best results are achieved by using Microsoft Powerpoint for both Mac and PC users, and we are encouraging all users to standardise to this package. It is available from the School's computing Department and is also part of the recommended standard software for use in the School - Microsoft Office.

Imaging your slides
Whatever package you use to create your slides, please insert an additional slide at the start of your presentation with the following information on it: Your name, department, file name, date, number of slides in the presentation (excluding this one!). This enables our staff to identify your slides throughout processing and mounting - there will be no charge made for this additional identifying slide. Leave your disc for imaging at the Reception Desk. A job sheet should be filled in including details of the software used, version, file name, number of slides, date required and telephone extension for queries. We require an appropriate budget code before any work can be carried out. Or if appropriate you can e-mail your slides (slide@sgul.ac.uk), but please make sure all your information is on the cover slide. We cannot image your slides without this information. Turnaround time: Due to the decline in demand for 35mm slides, it is not possible to turnaround small quantities in short time scales. We need to batch work together in order for the service to be cost effective. Up to 16 slides we require 3-4 days notice: 16-36 slides
24 hrs. Please contact ext 2603 to discuss your requirements.
