Clinical Developmental Sciences Strategy 2007/08.

Aim of the planning process

To ensure that CDS activities support SGUL priorities and Education and Research Strategies.

Institutional priorities for 2007-2008

  • Student Growth on current courses,
  • Development of research themes,
  • Exploration of new opportunities including the development of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses,
  • A balanced staff profile.

Process
The divisional plan has been submitted 11 May 2007.
The meetings between the Planning Review Group and the Heads of Division/Centres will take place on 30 and 31 May 2007.

CDS strategic plan
CDS has submitted
An divisional plan  for 2007-2008, detailing CDS strategy , together with a  action plan report  outlining the progress made in relation to the divisional 2006 strategy  and action plan .
Areas including teaching, research , staffing, estates, exploration of new opportunities have been addressed in terms of existing and developing resources and skill, together with new initiatives and the accompanying need for additional skills, expertise and resources

Key issues for CDS Strategy 2007/8

1. CDS teaching strategy 
This focuses on a unique, potentially highly competitive, new 3 year BSc in Genetics and Reproduction to be launched October 2008, facilitating ASNs

2. CDS research strategy
The recognition of Genetics as a SGUL research theme to support the expanding research which enriches current teaching and which would add value to the planned BSc in Genetics and Reproduction.

3. CDS staffing strategy
Planned succession of staff who leave and additional posts to facilitate teaching delivery in response to the increased demands of MBBS teaching, to establish and coordinate the proposed new BSc in Genetics and Reproduction and to provide additional contribution to the diversity of the proposed BSc, increasing its competitive advantage
