Dr Andrew Beggs

I am currently researching the role of genomic instability in colorectal polyps in driving carcinogenesis under the supervision of Professor Shirley Hodgson and Professor Ian Tomlinson. This is a joint project funded by the Mayday Hospital, St Georges University of London, the European Commission and Cancer Research UK.

We aim to discover the order and timing of the earliest somatic genetic and epigenetic changes in pre-malignant colonic lesions. From this we hope to better understand the earliest triggers of colorectal carcinogenesis with a view to future therapeutic or diagnostic targets.

My research interests include colorectal cancer genetics and the genetics of carcinogenesis. I am also researching pelvic floor disorders, endoscopy, sacral neuromodulation for incontinence and enhanced recovery programmes in colorectal surgery.
