Professor Dafydd Walters

Head of Section of Child Health in 1994. Having previously been senior lecturer and reader in paediatrics at UCL and became Head of Section of Child Health when the new department of Clinical Developmental Sciences was formed. Research interest is the ion and water transport across the lung epithelium and the way in which this develops in the fetus, the newborn and in later life. This physiological mechanism is essential for normal lung growth, for adaptation to air breathing at birth and for maintenance of normally functioning lungs after birth.

Clinical interests are in general paediatrics with an particular interest in respiratory diseases.

Currently Funded by MRC grant in collaboration with Professor P Kemp (Cardiff) into the role of CNG1 channels in maintenance of pulmonary liquid homeostasis.

Previously secretary of the Association of Clinical Professors of Paediatrics 1998 — 2002.

Chairman of the Physiological Society 2002 — 2004.
