Domains

The Web Services team currently manages over fifty different domainnames and will be able to assist in the creation of domains within the school, for example, if you require www.badminton.sgul.ac.uk or www.etu.sgul.ac.uk then this can be created easily and at no charge and reasonable server space made available.

For the creation of domains outside the www.sgul.ac.uk domain then please speak to the Webmaster, as a general rule acquiring domains such as www.laia.ac.uk is becoming more difficult and will have to be accepted by JANET and will incur a yearly charge, further information can be found here. Acquiring a domain name with a .co.uk or .com is not possible within the school but the Webmaster will be able to advise on the best value and most secure hosting company.

The Web team will assist users with the creation of their sites and help maintain them at no cost but it has to be understood that our priorities are the external website and the Intranet/Portal and any requests containing large and time consuming work, major changes, face lifts and complete rewrites will probably be rejected and the user advised to contact an external company for the work involved.
