Research

Research at St George’s is multidisciplinary and is focussed primarily on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Pulmonary Infection. Areas studied include health status in chronic lung disease, pathophysiology and pharmacology of COPD, airway ion transport, pulmonary rehabilitation, self management plans for patients with COPD. Much of the research is done in the clinical environment and involves patients recruited into a COPD database through the clinical service. The unit also has active research programmes in tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, pulmonary hypertension and bronchial intervention.
