Dermatology Unit

The Dermatology Section is a research unit with an interest in the microcirculation, especially of the skin, and in disease of the lymphatic system (lymphoedema).Much of our work employs microscopy and nuclear medicine techniques to study the function of the skin and the lymphatic system.

Our main interests are:

  • Measurement and diagnosis of lymphoedema
  • Techniques for the study of the lymphatic system and the microcirculation
  • Pathophysiology of primary lymphoedema
  • Pathophysiology of secondary lymphoedema
  • The microcirculation in skin cancer
  • The microcirculation in psoriasis

Recent research has focussed on lymphatic function in the arms of women treated for breast cancer and the relationship between venous and lymphatic disease in the leg.
