A half-day workshop about the research tools available to you, how to keep up to date with what is being published, and how to manage your references, with plenty of time for practical searching.

Searching databases:

  • Which databases to search
  • How to plan an effective search
  • Practical searching
  • Saving your search strategies and results
  • Locating the full text journal articles

Keeping up to date:

  • Setting up auto-alerts to run searches in databases
  • Using ZETOC (British Library’s Table of Contents Service)
  • Book Alert Services
  • Setting up Blogs

Searching the Internet:

  • Using search engines effectively
  • Using subject gateways
  • Evaluating websites

Managing your references:

  • Using Reference Manager software to create your own database
