AddictionsThe Addiction Research group at SGUL has been one of the most productive in the field nationally during the last five years, with major programmes of research into the Pharmacology of Addiction and Health Services Research and the Treatment of Addictions. Pharmacology of Addiction research includes a number of studies looking at the mechanisms and nature of addiction, with the longer term aim of developing more effective new treatment approaches. The Health Services Research group has run a series of multicentre randomized controlled trials and cohort studies, spanning alcohol, tobacco and drug addiction that aims to increase understanding of components of effective treatments and the outcome of treatment interventions in NHS settings. Total grant income for Addictions Research from 2001 period has reached £8M. |
