Introduction

The Centre is named after Robert Lowe, a Dean at St. George's Hospital Medical School, for several years. On leaving St. George's, as a parting gesture, the Governors named the Centre after him in recognition for all the hard work Robert put into the Centre.

 Facilities
The Centre's facilities include:
  • One sports hall, large enough for a 5 a-side football or three badminton courts and many other activities
  • Three open squash courts
  • Two aerobics rooms
  • One resistance machine room
  • One free weights room
  • Changing rooms with showers
  • Vending machines (provided by external companies)
Student membership
The Centre is primarily for all students being taught at St. George's, University of London and students have first choice for booking sessions in the Sports Hall and Squash Courts.

Staff membership
Staff working at St. George's (University and Hospital), Atkinson Morely, Springfield, Bolingbroke and St. Helier Hospitals are allowed membership at staff rates.

Alumni membership
St. George's graduates automatically become members of the Alumni Association. Wherever they are based the rate will be the same as for staff. Associate members are allowed, with requirements currently under Committee review. The Sports Centre is a non-profit organisation with surplus monies recycled to enhance the Centre.

Opening times
The Centre is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day, from 0700am to 1045pm. Members may enter as many times during the day as they wish at no extra cost.

Every body MUST be a member of the Robert Lowe Sports Centre to utilise any of the facilities or attend any classes. No guests are allowed. If you don't have a key you will not be allowed entry.

Approximately six times a year, the Sports Hall has to be made available for examinations. Dates are known well in advanced and take precedence.

The Sports Centre, which is fully owned by St George's, University of London, is also booked on occasions for competitions, theatre productions and charity and other events. Contact the Centre Manager for details.

Ken Wicks
Ken is an esteemed Squash Coach, and put all his efforts into the Centre while he was Manager. You may see him around from time to time, so be sure to say Hi!
