International Narcotics Control Board elects Hamid Ghodse as President
Professor Hamid Ghodse, Director of the International Centre for Drug Policy at St George's, University of London, has been elected President of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).
Professor Ghodse has been a member of the INCB since 1992 and has served eight times as the Board's President. Professor Ghodse is the author of over 300 scientific papers on drug-related issues and an expert and advisor for a number of international fora.
The INCB Presidents are elected by the Board. He will serve a one-year term, ending in May 2009.
The Vienna-based Board is an independent body, established by the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs to monitor and support Government compliance with the international drug control treaties.
