St George's University of London Wins Heist Award for Widening Particpation

This year St George’s was rewarded with the institution’s first ever HEIST award, in the category "Campaign or Initiative: Widening Participation in Higher Education", for production of the ‘Taste of Medicine’ interactive CD-ROM. This product is the only one of its kind in the country, specifically designed to raise the aspirations and attainment of year 9 students (aged 13/14). Over the course of the past year almost 70,000 copies of the CD-ROM have been distributed, and the content will shortly be released online for national dissemination.

HEIST is an organisation that specialises in educational marketing in both the FE and HE sector. Their annual awards are run to recognise best practice and innovation in a range of areas in post-compulsory education, and are regarded as the leading indicator of excellence in educational marketing.

"It’s fantastic to be recognised with this award, and an important indication of the growing value of Widening Participation. It is also encouraging to think that we have achieved this recognition just as we look to expand our range of provision."

Kenton Lewis, Assistant Registrar (Fair Access)
