Profile: Faith and Ruth Agbakoba

Faith and Ruth Agbakoba, 20, are both beginning their third year of the Biomedical Informatics (BMI) degree at St George’s, University of London.

The twins have really enjoyed their time so far. Ruth feels that one of George’s strengths is “it’s a diverse area and people here are very friendly. The student community is close and supportive”.
They’ve both made good use of the student societies and local sports facilities.

Faith is a member of the Student’s Union Badminton club and likes the fact that there is a sports centre on campus with a membership fee of £20 a year. Ruth is a member of several societies including the Afro-Caribbean society and notes that there is also a lot of George’s student social activity in nearby Wimbledon.

Ruth feels that the BMI course “is tailor-made, no other course combines healthcare, science and Information Technology; this course is ideal for me as I am interested in all three. There will be so many different career opportunities for me when I graduate. I want to make the most of my time here”.
Faith has enjoyed the external visits during her studies; a highlight of the course has been a visit to an Informatics Conference (HC2007).

“There is a large world of informatics out there. Health, internationally, needs better IT. We need to deliver better patient care. I enjoy meeting professionals already working in this area and getting a range of different perspectives on current issues.”
