Student Welfare

We care about your welfare, you are making a major investment in your future by enrolling at St George's and all of the staff at the Medical School are committed to ensuring you receive all the help and support you need to achieve your ambitions.

The Counselling Service team is made up of caring professionals who have helped many students over the years to cope with or overcome relationship issues, work stresses and family problems. Where specialised help is required, our counsellors can suggest or arrange for expert assistance and further support, but only with the consent of the individual. Any matters discussed with the Counselling Service are kept strictly confidential. The emphasis is on listening to students, exploring options, discussing possible ways forward and offering impartial advice. Our counsellors are highly trained and experienced to provide non-judgmental help with sensitivity and understanding.

Practical information is readily available on a wide range of issues. These include accommodation and finance, and students always have access to sound advice on the options open to them should they need to seek additional financial or legal assistance. These issues are the responsibility of the Vice-President (Education and Welfare) who is appointed by the student body and works closely with counsellors to ensure that the appropriate support is provided. The Counselling Service is available five days a week throughout the year. Attendance is entirely voluntary and students usually self-refer. If ever you have a problem that is causing you concern or threatens to put up a barrier to your progress at the School, the counsellors' door is always open.
