Admissions Policy and Procedure Access to St. George's and Halls Quickscan Screening (Diagnosing Dyslexia) |
Access to St. George's and HallsThe St George’s Site. St George's, University of London is located in south-west London on the same site as St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust. The University's buildings are relatively modern (1970s and 1980s) and are built close together, with links by covered corridors at several levels. Students often work in the NHS Trust buildings which are mostly of the same age and type, but there are some older buildings (late 19th century) which are due to be replaced or modernised in the next few years. Generally, all academic facilities in the University are physically accessible. Lifts serve all floors and there is ramp access from the outside. There is at least one accessible toilet on each floor. Within the hospital buildings on site, there are some lifts which are not ideal for wheelchair users because of the positioning of buttons, but these controls are scheduled to be replaced. Residential Accommodation The University aims to provide residential accommodation to all first-year students who have requested it. Once all first year students have been accommodated and rooms are vacant then we can offer these to students in any of the other years. This will be in the new Halls of Residence at St George's Grove, which is approximately one mile from St George's. The Halls of Residence is a purpose built accommodation block (2007) containing 332 en-suite bedroom units, these are spread over five floors in five blocks. The bedroom units are in wings (max of six) with their own shared kitchen. All are self-catering. At the top of each block there is a common room complete with TV for students to spend their free time and socialise. The building fully complies with DDA regulations, and on the ground floor there are four accessible en-suite units and kitchens (one per wing). |
