Health Clearance and Hepatitis B

All offers of places at St George's Hospital Medical School are made subject to satisfactory health clearance and an agreement to undergo appropriate blood tests and immunisations. Selection Procedure

Please remember that although we consider each application carefully and thoroughly on its merits, there is strong competition for entry.

Our first selection process is to consider academic results. We consider the following when we decide who to invite for interview:

  • The range and standard of your GCSE examinations.
  • Predictions of AAAb (or BBCb if eligible) in the correct subjects
  • A UKCAT score

Any applicant who has the all the requirements listed above, will automatically be called for interview. Candidates not offering GCSE and A level qualifications or lower achievements than those mentioned will be considered on their merits paying particular attention to the points covered below and their UKCAT score.

If an applicant falls short of the usual requirements in one area, or if there are strong extenuating circumstances, then the application will be assessed by Shortlisting Panels and a decision made about whether an interview should be offered.

Interviews

No candidate is given an offer without being invited for interview at St George's. Interviews are conducted by a panel of four interviewers and take around twenty-five minutes. The interview is an important part of the selection procedure. When you attend for interview, you will have the opportunity to meet students and to be shown around.

At this stage we will expect candidates to show:

  • Ability to communicate
  • Evidence of commitment and motivation (including relevant work experience)
  • Empathy and sensitivity to needs of others and self
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Stamina and awareness of your own limitations

You will normally hear in writing about the outcome of your interview within 10 working days.
