Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing/Registered Nurse (Accelerated Programme for Graduates): Adult NursingThis accelerated course is designed to enable the student to develop the knowledge, skills and values to qualify as a Registered Nurse in either: Adult Nursing or Mental Health Nursing;. The course is for entrants holding a degree in a health-related subject eg Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, or Nutrition. These are the general requirements but we welcome enquiries from individuals about specific qualifications. At the end of the course you will be prepared for a lifelong career in an innovative and expanding profession.
Course Structure A five month common foundation module is followed by a two year branch programme. There are two pathways through the accelerated pre-registration programme. During year three students will be supported in their decision to proceed with the course a either diploma or degree level. The course covers a wide range of subjects central to the theory and practice of nursing: Accountability, Law and Ethics, Information Management and Technology, Interpersonal Skills, Clinical Nursing Skills, Professional Nursing and Development, Problem Solving and Critical Decision Making, and Management Skills. Methods of Teaching The course comprises 50% theory and 50% clinical practice. Method of Assessment Assessment is continuous and by a combination of academic course work and assessment of clinical practice. All modules are assessed to provide students with feedback on progress and to enable advancement to the next phase of the programme. A variety of assessment strategies are used, including essays, examinations and project work.
